China Cabinet Update - FINALLY DONE!

It's finally done!  We finished it at 10pm last night.  The white parts took 6 coats.  We didn't prime it beforehand, but should have.  The inside, blue part (which you can't see very well in this photo... it looks yellow because of the lights) only took 2 coats.

We had planned on buying new hardware for it, but couldn't find the correct hinges, even online, so we spray painted the hardware.  I'm VERY pleased with the way that turned out.  The bottom handles are so substantial (for lack of a better word) and I think it needs that... I don't think we would have been able to find any that would have held up, that would have been in our price range.

Keith installed 3 new lights in the top, and even added a dimmer, so all we have to do to turn the lights on, is touch the top-left hinge.

Before and After:

Now, the fun part... to fill it up.  YAY!

The top shelf will hold my Moon Glow china: www.replacements.com/webquote/FEGMOO.htm#10119
I got this stuff at an auction for about $20 when I was in HS.  I think I've got 4 or 5 place settings.

The middle shelf will hold my Grandma's china:  www.replacements.com/webquote/WARSIM.htm

And the bottom shelf will hold a few pieces of Milk Glass that I have... a punch bowl, some candy dishes, etc.

It turned out super cute! Have you thought of mixing the place settings from both of your collections? It might match the shabby chic nature of your cabinet.

You could either do 2 of the moon glow settings per shelf, or mix a moon glow diner plate with your grandma's salad plate or visa versa.

Oh gosh... I just don't think I could bare to do that. This will be the first time I've ever had a place to display her china. It's taking all I've got not to ONLY put it in the hutch. But I really need the cabinet space this will free up if I put the moonglow and the milk glass in it as well. But I'm too anal not to keep them seperate at least for now.

Understood, I love mix and match, but it's definitely not everyone's aesthetic!

I was thinking the same thing. I think it would create a nice balance throughout the shelves.

The cabinet looks great!
